Belarus: Trade union activity is not extremism!

In partnership with the Association Salidarnast, which was founded in Bremen by Belarusian trade union activists, who left Belarus for security reasons. The organization was created to support those trade union activists who had been arrested and convicted by the Lukashenko regime. The Association Salidarnast provides humanitarian, legal and informational assistance to these people and their families; and encourages everyone to join the struggle for the release of political prisoners. The campaign is launched in partnership with the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions, the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), the International Union of Foodworkers (IUF), IndustriALL global union, Public Services International (PSI) and the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC).

Kazakhstan: Free the worker activist Erzhan Elshibayev

Erzhan Elshibayev, a human rights defender and a worker activist in Kazakhstan has been in prison for over two years now. He is one of the organisers of the 2019 rallies in the town of Zhanaozen to demand higher wages for local workers and the creation of jobs for the unemployed. Zhanaozen is a town in Western Kazakhstan located in the centre of the richest oil bearing region. Yet, for many years, the unemployment rate in the town remains one of the highest in the country.

Belarus: Biggest attack on a trade union in Europe this century

April 19 was marked a black day in the history of the independent trade union movement in Belarus. The State Security Service (KGB) arrested more than a dozen trade union activists, including almost all the Union leaders. Among them were President of Congress of Democratic Trade Unions (BKDP) Alexandr Yarashuk, vice-president Siarhei Antusevich, and the head of the Free Belarusian Trade Union Mikalaj Sharakh.
